Douglas Lake provides fishermen with hefty catches of Sauger (Feb-March) in the river from Hwy 25 bridge upstream, Largemouth Bass (April-May), and Crappie (Usually March-May). A honeycomb of wide, shallow embayments attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season, occasionally earlier. Excellent fishing for White Bass (Feb-March), mid-April in the headwaters and Bluegill (April-Oct.).
Douglas Headwaters Campground offers numerous sites located at Douglas Dam. Open from April-October, restroom facilities are adjacent to a free public boating launching ramp, a swimming beach as well as a free picnic area with shelter.
